All Those Unspectacular Moments Add Up To a Mountain of Awesomeness

I’ve been keeping a paper journal for a few years.

Initially, my intent was to write a few sentences every day but that felt forced. So two years in, my journal only has 31 entries. But I just realized five of those entries were in the last two months, which means it’s been a very nice summer so far.

Doesn’t summer go by way too fast? Especially after the Fourth of July when people start chatting about back-to-school shopping and Walmart breaks out the Halloween decorations. We always try to pack in as much as possible the last few weeks but this glorious season is always over in a blink.

Soon it will be fall, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas. I’m trying not to think about how those holidays are difficult for me for various reasons – some pertaining to the present and some going back 45-ish years. Instead, I’m trying to stay in the present and focus on the remaining weeks of carefree, sunny days and things I’d still like to do.

Anyway, the first half of summer has been a very good season of life in many ways. Imperfect, of course - I would love for a good friend to not move further away and it would be nice if Bill didn’t work so much but still, there is so much to be grateful for.

Life is a series of unspectacular moments that add up to a mountain of spectacular memories.
